California Fuel & Emission Standards

Standards

California emissions standards are divided into two categories -- passenger cars and light-duty trucks (below 3,750 lbs.), and light-duty trucks (between 3,751 and 8,500 lbs.) and medium-duty passenger vehicles (between 8,500 and 10,000 lbs.). Standards for category one range from 323 grams per mile (2009) to 205 gpm (2016); category two standards range from 439 gpm (2009) to 332 (2016).



Exceptions to inspections accommodate: cars of replica senescence prior to 1975; diesel vehicles prior to 1998 or of GVWR over 14,000 lbs.; electric, everyday Gauze and hybrid cars; motorcycles; and cars that are fewer than six age broken down.
