Prevent Rocker Sections On The Vehicle From Rusting

3. Tape off the rocker panel to insure the paint won't be getting anywhere but on the rocker panel. You can also place paper under the edges of the tape for further protection.4.



Once a scratch gets below the paint to metal, they are prone to start rusting. Another issue is that many times water is not being properly drained out, which will start the rust process internally.


There are steps you can use to spray them with a bumper coating paint, which offers much protection, and is available in black or gray, or you may opt to keep in line with the original color on the car.


In either case, you will be doing something positive towards preventing rust.


Instructions


1. Sand down past the clear coat finish and rough up all the paint on the rocker panel. Be sure to sand that bottom edge of the panels as well! You do not need to get down to the metal unless you have rust or a deep scratch or knick, in which case, you would need to get to bare metal and then apply a rust treatment product and glaze the low spot to get it level, before going to the next step.


2. Clean any waxes left on the panels with an ammoniated cleaner and dry off thoroughly with a tack rag or cloth, making sure there is no dust left behind on the panel. Be sure crevices are also dust free. A hair dryer will help to blow out small particles.

They're rapid to the path, and stones and gravel kick up on them, creating dings, nicks and scratches.Typically they acquire sample Car distemper on them and a popular, clear coat finish.


Face mask on and spray 2 to 3 coats of "high build" primer, waiting a few minutes for drying time between coats. The high build primer is thicker than finish primer and will also help to fill in any flaws or pinholes.


5. Bumper coating paint is thicker than regular paint. It has a flat satin like finish and is meant to withstand more abuse for reduced chipping, versus regular paint.


Spray 2 to 3 coats, allowing a few minutes to dry between coats.


6. If you decide to leave the bumper coating for your final finish, you are done. If you choose to apply your original paint color, spray 2 to 3 coats of primer over the bumper paint.


7. Lightly sand the primer with 400 grit paper, once it is completely dry and hard, and then spray 2 to 3 coats of your original car color paint.


8. Finish off with 2 to 3 coats of heavy duty clear coat finish. After it's completely dry, the next day, you may choose to wet sand the clear coat with 1000 to 1500 grit paper and then follow up with a rubbing compound and then car wax.
