Rebuild An Iskra Starter Motor

Starter motors are powered by the battery, production them direct-current motors.


Founded in 1999, Iskra is a Seam Belarussian/Slovenian society specializing in alternators, starters, and other electric motors, many of which are destined for European automakers. Iskra starter motors are used in Peugeot, Fiat, and Citroen vehicles, among others. Although available in contrastive voltage ratings, sizes, and mountings, all starter motors assistance using the corresponding guideline, and are rebuilt in the identical means. Instructions


1. Familiarize yourself with the Iskra starter Engine. Automotive starter motors are cylindrical, with the ajar gear on one neb and the closed commutator boundary at the other. 2. Replace if the brushes are excessively worn. When rebuilding a starter motor, installing new brushes can prevent future problems.3. Unscrew the solenoid from the starter housing. Remove the brush assembly. On the commutator end are two screws holding the brush assembly in the starter. Unscrew the brush assembly and take it out for inspection.



4. Remove the bolts holding the starter housing together. At the commutator end, remove the bolts at the end of the starter motor. Remove the clip at the end of the shaft and separate the motor.


5. Examine the bushings. Bushings allow bearings to rotate smoothly, and starter motors have three: one at each and, and one in the middle. Look for signs of wear; the end bushings receive more wear than the middle bushing. When rebuilding starter motors, replace all three bushings for the best service life.


6. Lightly grease the bushings using bearing grease and put them back in position. Slide the starter housing back together and tighten the end bolts, being sure to reinstall the shaft clip.


7. Insert the brush assembly, screwing it back in place. Reattach the solenoid to the starter motor housing. Your Iskra starter motor is now rebuilt.
