Securely Remove Window Tinting film

You should use caution when removing window tinting.

Window tint can provide an attractive and functional element to your car, but there may come a time when you decide you would rather have untinted windows. Razor blade removal can be dangerous and cumbersome. The sharp edge may also cause damage to defroster lines, but if you employ some simple tactics designed to lessen the bond between the tint and the window, you can safely remove window tinting from your automobile.

Instructions

1. Make sure the window is clean and clear of obstructions.

2. Cut two large black garbage bags to the same size as the window you want to strip of tint. Create a larger surface area by cutting along the seam.

3. Wet the exterior of the window with a water filled spray bottle.

4. Position the garbage bag over the wet window. Trim away any excess plastic so that the bag has the same proportions as the window, then smooth out any wrinkles.

5. Scrub the interior window with steel wool and ammonia to wash away the adhesive.

7. Park your vehicle so that the window receives direct sunlight for one hour.

8. Start to peel the tint away from the interior window by gently scraping a corner with a razor blade until you have a big enough piece to grasp. Attempt to remove the tint as one piece so that all tint layers come off the window at once.

9. Place a protective tarp or drop cloth over the upholstery and other delicate components near the inside window. This will protect the interior from drips or fumes from the ammonia.6. Generously spray ammonia onto the interior of the window and cover with the second garbage bag.
