Georgia's handicapped parking permits are distributed by the Government Branch of Revenue.
Georgia's community Branch of Revenue oversees distribution of handicapped parking permits. Motorists can acquire and renew the permits at local tax commissioner tag offices. Renewals apply most strictly to temporary permits, which are good for only six months. Permanent permits do not need to be renewed, although permit holders are required to turn over the window placard every four years in order to receive a new one. Permit renewals carry no fee but disabled person license plates cost $20.
Instructions
1. Determine what type of permit you have and when it needs to be renewed. Temporary permits, which are red, come up for renewal every six months. There are two colors of permanent permits, gold and blue, which must be turned over for a replacement every four years.
2. Find your county tag office. Check the Georgia Department of Revenue's database for a list. The number of nearby locations will depend on how populated the region. For example, Glynn County in South Georgia has just one office in Brunswick while the Atlanta area has seven offices in Fulton County.
3.4. Turn in the form at the tag office. Those who have permanent permits must bring the window placard to have a new one issued.
Fill out form MV-9D. The form can be downloaded online or acquired from the tag office. You'll need your driver's license number and a doctor to certify information in section four, which explains the disability. A doctor or therapist, called a "practitioner of the healing arts" on the form, must sign the form before a notary public. This happens every four years on a driver's birthday.
