Replace A 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix Ignition Switch

The ignition switch provides the connexion between the battery and the starter. Instructions


1. Detach the cable from the opposite terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shock. Distance to one side.

4. Remove the safety clip from the top of the stud on the steering wrinkle. Remove the bolt holding the steering shove in corner. Test the alignment marks on the shaft and steering trundle to clinch they are aligned. Provided not, stop the edge and the trundle for reassembly in the alike position.


5. Remove the steering shove with a steering rotate puller. Don't let on the steering shaft to turn with the steering wheel removed. Sign: When reinstalling tighten the steering revolve stone to a torque of 30 foot-pounds.


6.9. Remove the plastic spacer in the lower left corner of the housing. Don't forget to reinstall this piece during reassembly.10. Using a lock plate removal tool, depress the lock plate for access to the retaining ring. Use a small screwdriver to pry the retaining ring out of the groove in the steering column and remove the lock plate.


7. Remove the cancel cam assembly under the lockplate you just removed and the hazard warning knob. Remove the column housing cover screw, which is longer and blue in color. Unplug the electrical connector behind the turn signal lever, grasp the lever and pull it straight out of the housing.


8. Detach the wiring protector from under the steering column, separate the wiper pulse switch wires, then unplug the connector. Remove the pulse switch pivot pin, then pull the switch wires up through the column and remove switch and wires.


Remove the airbag coil retaining snap telephone and remove the coil assembly. Let the coil hang by the wiring harness. Remove the wave washer underneath the coil.


Install by reversing the removal steps.


Use a screwdriver to lift the switch tab. Pull gently on the buzzer switch wires and remove the buzzer switch.


12. Place the lock cylinder in the "Accessory" position. Remove the lock cylinder retaining screw. Remove the lock cylinder.


13. Place the lock cylinder in the "Run" position. Remove the turn signal switch housing screws. Remove the turn signal switch housing and steering shaft assembly as a complete unit.11.
