Option To Jumper Cables

Jumper cables are the cables commonly used to hop inauguration or boost a vehicle that has a drained battery. In general, jump starting is only done to automobiles or vehicles that are powered by an internal combustion engine. Starting power is provided for the vehicle with a discharged battery by connecting it to the battery in another car. When the engine starts to run, it recharges the drained battery and the booster battery can be disconnected.

Process

Your battery can be drained in many different ways, most of them accidental, such as leaving the headlamps on overnight. This process not only eliminates the possibility of dangerous electricity arcs occurring, but it also decreases the possibility of incorrect connections. Unfortunately, it also takes a long time to get the car started again because the amount of current is very small as it attempts to recharge the battery, rather than starting the engine to charge the battery. If you don't have a second car handy, you can also jump start your car by connecting it to a battery charger.

You should connect the clip or cable which is red to the positive terminal, and the black lead should be clipped to the piece of metal in the second car which is there to ground the connection.

Leave both cars in the "park" setting when attempting to jump start one. You can start the engine of the vehicle with the working battery and let it run for about 20 seconds to help boost the discharged battery, pressing lightly on the accelerator if needed. Once the dead engine springs to life, allow both engines to run for another two to three minutes so the battery can recharge. Disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order that you connected them.

Alternatives

Rather than connecting the batteries of two cars to get a dead car working again, you may instead use a cable to connect the cigarette lighter outlets in the two cars. The first step is to pop the hood of the car with the drained battery and position your second vehicle so that the two batteries being used are as close to each other as possible so the jumper cables can connect the two. However, the two vehicles shouldn't be parked so close to each other that they're in contact. There are two terminals on the battery and it is very important which lead you connect to the positive terminal.

These chargers recharge your car's battery and some large chargers can accomplish this in only a few minutes. Some chargers even have a "boost" setting which produces a large current that effectively jump starts your engine in the same manner that you would with jumper cables and a second car.
