Remove Speedometer Gear

Speedometer gears are offered in many altered sizes differentiated by colour to compensate for differential tire sizes or gear ratios. A interchange in tire heighth or in Ending guide gearing in the differential has a manage conclusion on the speedometer, resulting in an improper reading. To convert the gear with a gear other than modern, the tire heighth deviation from first or the recent gear ratio Testament longing to be related to the sales subject at the stop of sale. There are two gears expedient to function the speedometer. Provided the gear to compensate for a gear chicken feed to tire transform is the individual worry, once the vehicle is lifted, cause Action 3 solitary.

Instructions

1.3. Remove the driveshaft using a wrench to remove the four nuts securing the rear common to the yoke on the differential.4. Lower the rear of the driveshaft and pull it outside of the transmission.

Up thrust the vehicle using the floor jack and deposit jack stands under the frame for help and safety. Lower the vehicle down onto the jack stands.2. Assign the extract pan under the transmission rear tail housing.

Be careful not to Blop the bearing caps off the popular for it could displace all the bodkin bearings.

5. Remove the speedometer cable using the pliers to loosen the speedometer phone. Pull the speedometer cable elsewhere of the transmission. Extract the speedometer gear by removing the tiny 10 mm bolt securing it to the tail housing and pull it gone. Simply pull the plastic gear away of the gear imagination and push the replacement in. The gear in the transmission tail housing does not exigency to be replaced for compensations, exclusive for a failure. Install the gear, tighten the 10 mm bolt and install the speedometer cable.

6. Remove the four bolts securing the rear tail housing to the transmission. Pull the tail housing off the transmission.

7. Pull the retaining spring away from under the plastic gear using the needle-nose pliers. There is a slender 90-degree tang (protrusion of metal) on Everyone head of the V-clip. The tang is inserted into a gap in the tailshaft and a gap in the gear thereby affliction the gear from sliding up or down the shaft. When the spring is depressed, the tang Testament come out of the gear and the shaft. Pull the clip out and the gear off the shaft. Install the new gear, keeping the hole perpendicular over the hole in the shaft.

8. Squeeze the clip and insert it under the gear. Relieve the pressure on the clip. This will engage the clip tangs into both holes. Try to move the gear to make sure it is engaged and will not move.

9. Install the tail housing and tighten all four bolts using a socket.

10. Install the speedometer gear, the hold down plate and tighten the bolt.

11. Install the speedometer cable by threading it on clockwise. Install the driveshaft by aligning the splines on the transmission side yoke, sliding the driveshaft into the tail housing and placing the rear universal joint into the differential yoke.

12. Install the universal clamps. Install the nuts and tighten securely.

13. Raise the vehicle, remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground. Check the transmission fluid level and fill as necessary to the proper level on the dip stick.
