Change Gear Situation Oil In Outboard Motors

Annual maintenence of your outboard Engine is decisive. One of the most essential preservation tasks is to extract and refill the lower unit, or gear dispute. Changing the gear case oil removes any douse which might retain gotten in and allows the oil to be examined for metal and other indicators of a dormant complication.


Instructions


Specialized pumps are available for this, but a plastic squeeze bottle with a tapered nozzle cap (such as from a ketchup dispenser bottle)works fine. Simply force the cap into the hole and squeeze the bottle, forcing the oil in. You may need a helper for this if your lower unit holds more than one bottle of oil.



3. Remove the lower unit vent screw, located near the midpoint of the lower unit.


4. Refill the lower unit gear situation by forcing oil on ice the withdraw screw hole until it comes out of the vent hole.1. Position the Engine in the down position and field the empty pan under the lower unit.2. Community a container under the Engine to grab the broken down oil, then remove the lower unit extract screw, which is located on the backside of the gear occasion "Husk" at the imitation of the Engine. The helper can refill the bottle while you plug the hole.


5. Quickly replace the drain screw when the lower unit is full (oil comes out the vent hole). Tighten the screw firmly.


6. Inject oil in the vent hole to replace any oil that drained out while the screw was replaced.


7. Replace the vent screw and tighten securely.
