Remove A Cv Drive Shaft

5. Remove the axle nut from the outer end of the axle, using a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar and a large axle nut socket.


6. Pry the spindle forward or away from the axle with a pry bar, and gently tap on the end of the CV axle to push it through the hub. Use a hammer or large rubber mallet to tap the end of the axle. When the CV axle starts to move freely, reach behind the spindle and force the axle out by pushing on the axle with one hand. Pry the spindle away from the CV axle with your other hand, using a pry bar.


7. Push the pry bar between the inner end of the CV shaft and the transmission or differential. Pull the CV shaft free of the transmission or differential with your hand.


Push the handle of the pry bar inward toward the center of the car. The CV axle slides directly out of the transmission or differential, once the outer end has been removed from the hub and spindle combination.8.
