Control Exhaust Warmth On The 2007 Softail

The phrase "Softail" is a registered trademark of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. All Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles get a rear swing-arm that utilizes dark shocks to chop vibration from the means. The models acquire V-Twin motors that exhale a plenty of heat finished the exhaust pipes. The heat is caused by the explosions inside the combustion Hospital ward. You can domination the heat, emanating from your pipes, with exhaust pipe insulating wrap. This limit of defence keeps the heat of the pipes from burning you while you are riding.

Instructions

1. Operate a wrench to remove the two bolts that secure the front exhaust cylinder to the front cylinder intellect. Employment a wrench to remove the two bolts that secure the rear exhaust conduit to the rear cylinder head.

2. Follow the pipes from the cylinder heads until you locate the oxygen sensors. The exact mounting location will vary, depending on the model of Softail and the type of pipes installed. Remove the oxygen sensors from the pipes with a wrench. Continue to follow the pipes until you locate the bracket that secures the tailpipe to the motorcycle frame. Use a standard wrench or an Allen wrench, to remove the fastener for the exhaust pipes. Each pipe has a gasket located between the end of the pipe and the cylinder head.

3. Clean the exhaust pipes with a wet rag, to remove any dirt. Dry them off with a towel. Trapped dirt between the pipe and wrap can result in moisture build up, eventually causing the pipe to rot.

4. Tighten it in place, using a screwdriver.7. Position the exhaust pipe so the wet wrap can dry for 24 hours. This makes it easier to roll the wrap around the pipe.

5. Place one end of the wrap at the end of the exhaust, where it meets the cylinder head. Complete several wraps around the pipe. Overlap each wrap by 50 percent. After two or three wraps, secure the band clamp over the end of the wrapping and tighten it with a screwdriver. This secures the wrapping to the pipe. Continue to wrap the pipe, overlapping by 50 percent, until you cover approximately ½ of the pipe.

6. Cut off the excess wrap, using a sharp utility knife. Place a band clamp over the end of the wrap. Place an unraveled roll of exhaust wrap into a clean bucket of water. Remove the wrap from the water. Roll the exhaust wrap back up.

8. Repeat the process with the second pipe, and allow it to dry for 24 hours. Mount the pipes back onto the Softail.
