Modify the Starter on a 2000 Chevy Cavalier
Replacing the starter on the Cavalier can be accomplished in 60 minutes or less with the Correct tools. The starter is devolving on for turning the engine's flywheel. Removing the Cavalier's Starter

6. Remove the support bracket bolt on the left side, end, of the starter. Place the bolt aside.
7. Remove the starter's two retaining bolts, one at a time. Unbolt and remove the top retaining bolt first. Once removed, mark it with the painters tape. Support the starter with one hand and remove the bottom retaining bolt. Carefully lower the starter away from the engine. The top bolt should be marked because the retaining bolts for the starter are two different lengths.
Installing the Starter
8. Inspect the new starter for any visible signs of damage. Compare the old and new starter side by side to make sure they are identical. Make sure the solenoid's are also the same. Remove the two bolts holding the support bracket on the old starter and take the bracket off. Install the support bracket on the new starter. Set your 1/4-inch-drive torque wrench to 106 inch-pounds and completely secure the support bracket bolts.
9. The starter turns the flywheel until the engine starts, then retracts the gear. Starters wear absent or malfunction occasionally.
