3. Unplug the electrical connector from the antenna motor. Simply pull the two connectors apart. Locate the antenna lead, a white nylon, toothed cord extending from the top of the antenna motor. When the car is turned on, the gears in the motor push the cord upward to extend the antenna. The opposite happens when the car is shut off. Pull the cord out of the motor, without applying pressure to the antenna assembly. Hold the motor in one hand, and pull the cord out of the top of the motor with your free hand.


4. Remove the old antenna motor completely from the car. Hold the new antenna motor near its mounting area, inside the car. Attach the electrical connector on the motor using your hand. Install the motor loosely into its mounting position by starting the mounting bolts in with your fingers. Do not tighten the mounting bolts yet.


The potential antenna on the 1993 J30 is located on the Chauffeur's side rear quarter panel, and the Engine is accessed carry on the inner Timber lining.

Instructions

1. Hoist the Timber or deck lid of the J30. Push the antenna lead cord tip into the motor with slight pressure and ask your assistant to turn the car off. The motor will then pull the antenna lead cord into the motor housing. When the cord is successfully pulled into the housing, the motor is ready for tightening.


6. Tighten the antenna motor bolts down, using a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, socket, and 4-inch extension. Turn the bolts until they are snug, and then turn the bolts 1/4-turn farther. This "snug-and-a-quarter" method of tightening bolts is used when no torque is needed, and you are trying not to break certain parts. Do not torque or over tighten the bolts, as you will break the new motor mounting tabs.


7. Reinstall the trunk liner against the walls of the trunk. Pop the mounting tabs into the trunk liner with your fingers, and use the handle of a flat head screwdriver to push the tabs completely into locking position.
