Alter The Front Caliper On The 1999 Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado C-series trucks were rear-wheel ride, while the K-series trucks were four-wheel operate.

Silverado was a trim commensurate honour used for Chevrolet C- and K-series trucks from 1975 terminated 1999. The 1999 Chevrolet C/K 1500 pattern representation was a two-wheel guide Motor lorry, equipped with a 4.3-liter V-6 Vortec engine capable of producing 200 horsepower and 260 torque pounds. The brake development on the pattern 1999 C/K 1500 included front ventilated CD brakes and rear drum brakes. Silver the calipers on the front of the Motor lorry in pairs, to arrange balance throughout the front braking method. Chicken feed pads and rotors along with the calipers provided excessively or unevenly worn.

Instructions

1. Grassland the Motor lorry on a commensurate surface. Dwelling circle chocks last both rear wheels of the Motor lorry. Loosen the front circle lug nuts on the Motor lorry, with a tire iron. Up thrust the front extremity with a jack, and habitat jack stands under the front sub-frame on both sides of the Motor lorry. Remove the lug nuts from the wheels, and then remove the wheels completely from the Motor lorry.

2. Corner a remove pan underneath the brake meeting, underneath the front caliper. Loosen the brake line bolt on the back of the caliper with an open-end wrench. Remove the bolt with your fingers and complete not lose the bolt. Remove the brake path from the bottom of the caliper, ensuring the fluid drips into the bleed pan. Hang the path with the outer speck facing upward, using a metal clothes hangar and the front coil spring to grip it. This Testament prevent the full limit from draining the crackerjack cylinder.

3. Remove the caliper mounting bolts, using a 3/8-inch manage ratchet and a 3/8-inch impel hex mind (Allen belief) bit. Pull the caliper slide pins outward once loosened, so they autonomous the caliper-mounting bracket. Remove the caliper, using a diminutive pry bar whether essential.

4. Gaze the brake rotor for excess scoring or deep-seated grooves, particularly on the infiltrating side. Alternate scored or grooved front rotors at this clock. Research the thickness of the rotor using a brake micrometer or a principles tape degree. The brake micrometer reading should be no less than 1.215 in thousandths of an inch. The tape measurement should be no less than 1 3/8-inches thick. Provided either measurement is lower or ideal near to the inclined numbers, then convert the rotors.

5. Peep the brake pads lining thickness. Exchange pads when the pad is less than 1/4-inches (not including the backing plate) thick. Whether one side of the brake pad is worn extra than the other is, or there is any Category of angle across the brake pad lining face, this is too create to modify the brake pads. Settle the brake pads back into the caliper-mounting bracket whether they are not in itch of replacement.

10. Ask your assistant to pump the brake pedal slowly five times. If the pedal does not stiffen up for your assistant after five pumps, instruct him or her to stop pumping and let the pedal rest fully upward.11. Install the brake caliper bolts, and tighten the bolts to 35 foot-pounds with a 1/2-inch operate torque wrench, 1/2 to 3/8-inch converter and the 3/8-inch coerce hex belief bit.

7. Install the brake contour onto the rear of the latest caliper. Make sure the diminutive tab on the brake wrinkle aligns with the recess on the caliper. Install the brake column bolt, and tighten the bolt with an open-end wrench until it is snug. Turn the bolt 1/4-turn farther beyond snug to purchase the licence 15 to 20 foot-pounds of torque needed for this bolt.

8. Repeat Steps 2 terminated 6 to plentiful the caliper replacement on the moment side of the Motor lorry. Double-check the torque settings on the caliper-mounting bolts when you are finished.

9. Corner an assistant gently climb into the cab of the Motor lorry, and hunt for your assistant to pull the hood Proceeds. Open the hood of the truck. Fill the brake fluid reservoir just above the "Full" mark indicated on the semi-transparent side of the reservoir. Replace the lid on the fluid reservoir and ensure you tighten it.

6. Lubricate the metal backing on Everyone brake pad, with a glossy movie of caliper grease. Install the brand-new brake caliper onto the brake meeting. Thoroughly grease the caliper slide pins before inserting them into the bottom of the caliper.

Open the bleeder screw on the upper casting of the brake caliper, using and open-end wrench. Ask your assistant to slowly depress the brake pedal to the floor of the truck and hold it. Have your assistant use verbal queues like "up" when the pedal is at the top position and "down and holding" when the pedal is to the ground. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 of this section twice on both sides of the truck, to remove a large portion of the air in the brake lines.

12. Recheck the brake fluid reservoir and fill it to the "Full" mark with more brake fluid. Replace the cap when you are done, and make sure it is tight.

13. Ask your assistant to pump the brake pedal slowly 10 times, and then hold the weight of his or her foot on the pedal. Ask your assistant to say "up and holding" when the brake pedal is moderately stiff. Release the bleeder screw until your assistant indicates the brake pedal is to the floor again. Lock the bleeder screw shut when your assistant gives the "down and holding" queue. Repeat this step three times on one side of the truck, then three more times on the second side of the truck. Recheck your brake fluid level when you switch sides.

14. Top the brake fluid reservoir off to the "Full" mark when done bleeding the brakes. Install the front wheels onto the truck and tighten the lug nuts snug with a tire iron. Raise the truck off of the jack stands, and then remove the jack stands from beneath the truck. Lower the truck to the ground. Immediately tighten the front wheel lug nuts to 140 foot-pounds with the 1/2-inch drive torque wrench and a socket.
